Team --
In 2017, hundreds of white supremacists flocked to Charlottesville, Virginia, for a "Unite the Right" rally. I won't write out the racist, xenophobic and anti-Semitic chants they screamed into the night. It's nothing we haven't seen or heard before.
The white supremacists brandishing tiki torches didn't materialize out of thin air -- they're Americans. Teachers. Cops. Elected officials. Charlottesville was the unnecessary reminder that white supremacy and racism are as American as apple pie.
I remember watching this sham unfold on live television and worrying about our country's future, the future my sons will one day inherit.
The fact is, team, this country's battle with white supremacy didn't begin in Charlottesville in 2017, and it didn't end when Donald Trump was defeated in 2020. We have to aggressively organize against white supremacy every single day, reach Black voters at the grassroots level, and make sure our voices are heard at the polls no matter the cost.
That's why on today's infamous anniversary, I'm asking you to choose progress over hate — justice over bigotry. To help us register Black voters and build power in our communities, make a donation to The Collective's Vote To Live campaign today.
United, we are stronger and louder than those who try to lock us out of the democratic process.
Collectively, we will win,
Stefanie
