John --
Dwight is proud to vote to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour today. Let us know if you support a $15 minimum wage today >>
The hard-working Philadelphians making only $7.25 an hour know better than anyone that the current statewide minimum wage isn't a liveable wage. Working one job should be enough to feed your family, put a roof over your head, and keep the lights and air conditioner turned on this summer -- but it's not. And Dwight is fighting to change that.
Raising the minimum wage isn't just a moral obligation, it's simply common-sense economic policy. When adjusted for inflation, the minimum wage workers in our state are making a whopping 29% less than their counterparts were just 50 years ago. And when the minimum wage doesn't keep pace with inflation, workers lose the purchasing power that's critical to keeping our economy healthy and robust for everyone.
The good news? Research has also shown that raising the minimum wage doesn't cause job loss. It actually reduces poverty, which is a total win-win scenario for everyone involved.
John, Dwight is working to raise 1.3 million Americans out of poverty, and we want to know if you're with him. Can you take our short survey TODAY to let us know if you support a $15 minimum wage?
More than just lifting vulnerable communities out of poverty and more than just improving our economy -- raising the minimum wage is about dignity. It's about security, making sure everyone on our block knows where their next meal is coming from -- and that they can pay the rent, their bills, transport their kids to school, and live a normal and prosperous life free from anxiety and fear. Who doesn't want that?
Let us know what you think today, John >>
Thanks,
