John,
Thanks to you, Senate Democrats were able to muster the 50 votes needed to advance President Biden’s $3.5 trillion Build Back Better package. Now, committees in the Senate will begin filling in the details, and it’s up to us to ensure they fulfill their promise to the American people. The House of Representatives will meet the week of August 23rd to pass their version of the Biden Build Back Better budget resolution.
Senators Kyrsten Sinema and Joe Manchin have already signaled that they’re uncomfortable with the size and scope of the package and want the entire budget “paid for.” And there are a bunch of moderate House members who feel the same way.
That’s why we need to amp up the pressure.
We know we can afford these critical investments in jobs, healthcare affordability, clean energy, education, child care and more―when the rich and corporations start paying their fair share. But with voting margins extremely close, Wall Street lobbyists see an opportunity to pick off a few moderate Democrats, which is all it would take to undermine this once-in-a-generation opportunity in either the House or the Senate.
Grassroots power can defeat Wall Street pressure! It’s up to us to keep fighting for an economy and a tax system that puts working people first and ensures the rich and corporations start paying their fair share. Pitch in $5 to fuel the fight to win >>
