Hi Friend,
I wanted to make sure you saw this important message on our petition with Muslim.co calling on Sony, Microsoft and Valve to drop the offensive video game Six Days in Fallujah.
We are no enemies of video games but a first-person shooter about a real, recent battle, where thousands of people were killed, is deeply offensive.
Relatives of these victims are still alive and so are other people who were held hostage by the fighting — many of whom still suffer mental and physical trauma. Their lives are not a game.
To use the tragedy of war whose memory is still raw as a stage for entertainment is callous and lacks basic human courtesy.
Moreover, for too long, Muslim characters have been used as props to be shot and killed in video games, movies and TV shows. No matter the personal intentions of creative developers, the end result is that Muslims are dehumanized as objects to fear and fight. Enough!
At a time of epidemic gun violence, anti-Muslim bigotry and an uptick in hate crimes against vulnerable communities, we worry about the potential fallout from this video game. Releasing Six Days in Fallujah now is just irresponsible.
In solidarity, Khelil B. Digital Manager, Muslim Advocates
