The bipartisan infrastructure bill just passed the U.S. Senate, and that’s good news for South Carolina.

This historic Act includes billions of dollars in funding to improve our highways, invest in public transportation, expand the use of electric vehicles and increase broadband coverage to rural areas.

But here’s the thing: this funding will only benefit South Carolinians if we can trust our governor to swiftly accept and properly use it. How can we trust Henry McMaster when he continues to show us that he would rather squander this once-in-a-generation opportunity in the name of partisan politics, than position our state for unprecedented growth and success?

For decades, infrastructure in South Carolina has suffered from a systemic lack of investment. Republicans have controlled this state for almost two decades now. And just look at our crumbling roads and bridges, public transit woes, lack of innovation, and broadband dead zones!

But that can change under the historic Infrastructure Act. This federal bill includes:

• $4.6 billion for highway programs and $274 million for bridge replacements;
• $4.9 billion to improve public transportation across the state;
• $70 million to support EV charging networks;
• $100 million to provide broadband coverage to over 405,000 South Carolinians.

Now, we need a governor who has the courage to lead, the guts to govern, and the resolve to fix our broken infrastructure. That starts with accepting and utilizing ALL funding to help build a better, stronger South Carolina!

We’ve waited long enough. After two decades of failed leadership, South Carolina deserves a governor who will always put the people of this state first.
