John,
Yesterday, Governor Evers vetoed six election integrity
bills put forward by Republicans in the state Legislature, which
would have strengthened election integrity and increased
transparency in Wisconsin's electoral process.
Among the bills Evers vetoed were SB 203, which would
have explicitly authorized the use of drop boxes to collect
absentee ballots and placed various restrictions on their use, SB
204, which would have prevented bad actors from abusing
"indefinitely confined" status to avoid showing photo ID, and SB
210, which would have allowed election observers to be no more
than three feet from tables at which voting activities are
occurring.
As we said in our statement yesterday, all state elected
officials, regardless of party, should want Wisconsinites to feel
confident in the results of our elections. It's absurd that Tony
Evers is fundamentally unwilling to engage on the issue of
election integrity while Wisconsinites across the state seek
commonsense reforms to strengthen voter confidence and prevent
fraud. Tony Evers' performative veto is just more of the same
partisan theatrics that Democrats have used in their quest to
hinder election integrity across the country.
We knew Governor Evers was going to veto these bills --
but the fight to secure our elections is just getting started.
