When We All Vote John,
As a valuable member of our team, we wanted to make sure you heard about this huge voting rights update.
Last night, the Senate held a procedural vote to begin debate on the For the People Act. We had another opportunity to pass a bill that would ensure everyone's voices are heard in our elections and guarantee that congressional districts are drawn fairly. We had another opportunity to pass a bill that 8 in 10 Americans all across the country support.
Yet again, progress was blocked by a Republican filibuster. But we must not lose hope. It has never been more clear than now that there is a path forward for this crucial voting rights bill. The Senate majority must let nothing stand in their way, especially the Jim Crow era filibuster, from passing the For the People Act. Will you join us now and chip in $10 to help keep us keep up the pressure and fight for accessible voting rights for all?
FIGHT BACK AGAINST VOTER SUPPRESSION [[link removed]] As we are about to head into a critical election year, the need for a comprehensive voting rights bill like the For the People Act has never been more apparent. Our friends at the Brennan Center for Justice found that between January 1 and July 14, 2021, at least 18 states enacted 30 laws that restrict access to the ballot box. And during that same time period, more than 400 bills with provisions that restrict voting access have been introduced in 49 states.
From cumbersome voter ID laws and making mail-in voting more difficult to decreasing the number of polling places and limiting early voting, state legislatures are building anti-democratic barriers to voting, disproportionately affecting people of color and people with disabilities.
Make no mistake -- we have hit a turning point in our fight to protect our freedom to vote, and we need to continue to pressure the Senate to act now.
We can't let anything stand in the way of protecting our freedom to vote and ensuring fair elections. Congress is listening to us, which is why we need to be even louder now. Our right to vote is at stake. Chip in now → [link removed]]
We can't let up -- we need to ramp up our advocacy and mobilization efforts to protect the sacred right to vote for every voter .
Thank you always for your support,
Laura
