Last week, I announced my latest mission: to inspire and support women who’ve led lives of service to run for elected office.

For me, this is both personal and urgent. If this is a turning point in our country’s history, we need more women and service-oriented leaders in the halls of power to ensure we head in the right direction.

After last year’s election, it would have been a lot easier to walk away from politics. But that’s not me. I ran for Senate because I was driven to continue to serve my country, and I saw Mitch McConnell as one of the most destructive forces in our government.

When I was deciding what was next for me, I kept thinking of what was going through my head as I agonized over the decision to run for office. I knew I was personally very lucky to have had amazing mentors and friends who helped me go for it.

It's my turn to give back. Right now, there's a woman out there who knows she can help make our country a better place, but isn't sure if electoral politics is right for her.
