Because of organizers and activists like you, President Biden just extended the student loan payment pause until January 31, 2022 — the next step is full cancelation of federal student loan debt.

This extension provides immediate but temporary relief for Americans who are struggling to balance paying for food, housing, and health care with their student debt. 

Now we must keep the pressure on President Biden and urge him to make this temporary relief permanent by canceling all federal student loan debt. 

Together we showed up to elect President Biden to the highest office in the United States, and this payment extension shows we have the power to affect policy at the highest levels and change our lives and communities for the better.

Act Now: Write to President Biden and urge him to fully cancel federal student loan debt to provide relief to millions of Americans, not just for a few months, but permanently.

On the campaign trail, President Biden promised to lessen the financial burden of student loan debt on 45 million Americans. Since these 45 million Americans owe $1.6 trillion combined in student loan debt, we expect him to keep that promise. 

Democratic Senators Chuck Schumer and Elizabeth Warren have called on President Biden to eliminate $50,000 in student debt, and we’re working to make sure President Biden takes this step as he works toward full cancelation. 
 
Student debt is not just an economic issue — it’s a racial and gender issue, too. The weight of student debt falls disproportionately on the shoulders of Black and brown Americans as well as women. 

By fully canceling all federal student loan debt, President Biden will bring us closer to closing our country’s racial and gender wealth gaps. 

Extending the student loan payment pause to January 31, 2022 is a great start — but we’re fighting for the long-term solution.
