Join Us and Support Sharif Street for U.S. Senate Help us elect the first Muslim Senator in U.S. History
Salam wa Alaikum John,
As an institution, Emgage PAC strives to represent our community and uplift candidates who reflect our values. That is why we are proud to reaffirm our support for State Senator Sharif Street in his campaign to represent Pennsylvania in the United States Senate. With your help, we can make history by electing the first Muslim American Senator ever! Senator Street is a major advocate for the Muslim American community in Pennsylvania with a proven track re in cord of fighting for justice and equality. Recently, Senator Street fought to ensure that the Philadelphia School District recognizes Eid as a holiday. This recognition allows students, school district stakeholders, families, and staff to observe Eid without missing school. Students should never be in a place to choose whether or not to observe their religious holidays or miss out on their education.
In 2018, a young Muslim student, Nasiha Thompson King, was benched on her high school basketball team for wearing hijab. Senator Street took action to protect her right to practice her faith and negotiated with the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association to change this discriminatory policy banning the wearing of religious headwear. Additionally, earlier this year, 16-year old Sana Beaufort was assaulted by two students who ripped her hijab off at North Penn High School. When the Towamencin Township Police Department decided to charge Beaufort rather than her assailants, Senator Street stood up and spoke out against the blatant hate crime that was committed against her.
These are just a few examples of how Senator Street has defended not only the people of Pennsylvania but specifically our Muslim American community. He has stood by us; now, will you stand by him? Join us and support State Senator Sharif Street for the U.S. Senate on September 5th.
Can we count on you? In Solidarity,
Wa'el Alzayat Emgage PAC
