John -- There's good news and bad news in the fight for fair maps.
The good news is that thanks to the work of the NDRC and supporters like you, Republicans won't have the same map-drawing advantage this year that they had in 2011. You’ve helped create more independent redistricting commissions and win elections to give Democrats a seat at the redistricting table.
The bad news is the GOP still controls the redistricting process in four states that together have 94 U.S. House seats, more than 20 percent of the total. All of them were previously required to clear their maps with the Department of Justice due to their histories of racial discrimination -- but thanks to conservatives on the Supreme Court, that's no longer the case.
So how do we prevent Republicans from gerrymandering in these four states and others around the country? With our multi-pronged strategy: Mobilizing grassroots supporters, analyzing tens of thousands of proposed maps, exposing the GOP’s attempts to manipulate the redistricting process, and supporting plaintiffs in lawsuits where necessary.
