If you haven’t seen it already, there is sobering news from the United Nation’s latest climate report:

The UN climate scientists are warning that we are in a “code red for humanity.” After decades of inaction, it is more apparent than ever that we must prioritize climate action — as governor, I will ensure Maryland steps up as a national leader in the fight against climate change.
From co-chairing the Aspen K-12 Climate Action Commission to founding Strong Future Maryland, I have the experience to lead our state in a way that addresses the climate crisis and takes on issues of environmental justice. A whole of government approach centering Maryland’s most affected communities is necessary to combat climate change and repair the injustices that thousands of Marylanders face.
Will you contribute to my campaign today to ensure Maryland’s next governor will take the climate crisis seriously and fight to make our state a leader in environmental justice?

One of the most glaring examples of environmental injustice in our state is in Baltimore City, where most of the city’s trash is burned in a majority Black neighborhood. Between Baltimore’s lower-income, mostly Black neighborhoods and its wealthier, whiter ones, there is a 20-year-gap in life expectancy. Across the state, this disparity continues as fossil fuel and industrial plants are often located in predominantly Black and Brown communities.
In Maryland, we can lead the way in addressing the climate crisis, providing an example for others to follow.
As governor, I will ensure we take on this challenge to become leaders in climate justice. To do so, I will put Maryland on the path to become one of the first states to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions, crackdown on polluters, and ensure stakeholders from communities historically affected by pollution and environmental injustice have a role in decision-making.
We have no time to spare, which is why we cannot bear to elect a governor who will not make addressing climate change a top priority. So please, chip in to my campaign to ensure that environmental justice and combating the climate crisis always come first.

Everyone deserves to live in a healthy and clean environment, no matter their income or zip code. As governor, I will fight to make this happen for Marylanders.
Thank you for your support,
John King
