DROWNING IN HUMAN WASTE - WHAT'S TO BE DONE?

October 17th, 6:30pm
Emerson Center, 1590 27th Avenue, Vero Beach

With 900 new residents moving into Florida every day, disposal of human waste is a growing problem throughout our State. Water quality testing has shown human waste to be a primary source of pollution in our waters. Two experts will speak on different ways of improving the human waste disposal problem.
Vincent Burke, Director of Indian River County Utilities, will explain the County's Comprehensive Plan to expand the municipal sewage treatment system including:
* County laws regulating sewer for new development
* The neighborhood prioritization process for connection to sewer
* Projected costs, grants, challenges and time frames to execute the Plan
* Areas not included in current planning for municipal sewage

Roxanne Groover, Executive Director of the Florida Onsite Wastewater Association, will present information regarding nitrogen-reducing technologies that treat human waste on site rather than transporting the waste to municipal sewer treatment facilities.

The Clean Water Coalition is a volunteer, non-profit organization whose mission is to restore the waters of Indian River County. It currently partners with over 550 businesses and local organizations who share this mission.

IMPEACHMENT GUIDE

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has announced the start of a process to potentially impeach President Trump. But what is that process, and why start now?

GovTrack.us has launched a new website, impeachment.guide ([link removed]) , to answer these questions. You can find concise explanations of the events leading up to the impeachment inquiry, possible charges the President may face, and a timeline of the impeachment process as we know it.

The information on impeachment.guide ([link removed]) is compiled from Congressional Research Services research reports, United States law, and key documents that initiated or contributed to the impeachment inquiry. We will be updating the website as new documents are released.

FDP CONVENTION

Last weekend 13 delegates from Indian River County attended the Florida Democratic Party Convention in Orlando. The 3-day Convention was filled with trainings, committee meetings, caucuses and resolutions. Some very notable speakers included Delaware Senator Chris Coons, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy, DNC Vice Chair Michael Blake and Florida’s Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried.

The Democrats of Indian River submitted 4 resolutions for consideration by the FDP Resolution Committee. Out of all the resolutions submitted from across the State, 3 out of 4 of our resolutions were included in the Final Resolution Package of 15 resolutions. These resolutions were: Resolution Condemning President Trump's Racist Acts and Comments, Resolution on Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), and Resolution to Enact Common Sense Gun Reform. Resolutions constitute the platform for the FDP so we have had a major impact on the policy direction of our party. The 15 resolutions will be taken to the DNC National Convention in Milwaukee this summer. Thanks to Fred Grumman who has been the major drafter of our resolutions as a member of the Communications Committee. And, congratulations to our entire DEC for their hard work on the resolutions!
