Today’s resignation by Governor Andrew Cuomo is an important first step forward for our state and its citizens, following the state Attorney General’s report outlining the serial sexual misconduct he committed.
As you know, I requested a formal investigation in May 2020 and called on the Governor to resign last February following the tragic and unnecessary deaths of 15,000 seniors in nursing homes due to his decision to place COVID-positive patients with our most vulnerable.
While the Governor’s
resignation does not heal the trauma and hurt felt by these women or the New Yorkers who lost loved ones in a nursing home due to his poor decisions, it opens the door for the healing process to begin.
The New York Assembly’s Judiciary Committee and prosecutors must go forward and continue their investigations into all aspects of Cuomo’s multiple scandals: the families of his nursing home victims and all sexual harassment victims deserve justice.
Resignation alone is not accountability.
I want to thank the more than 20k Americans who signed my petition that called on the Governor to resign. I will continue working to ensure that he is held accountable and the public’s trust is restored.
