“Disinformation for Hire, a Shadow Industry, Is Quietly Booming”

Pitch in to fight back and help Voto Latino keep working to combat disinformation online!

John,

When I saw this headline, I have to admit: I was a little scared of what I was going to read next. Disinformation targeted at the Latino community has exploded over the last few years, and it’s concerning to hear that an entire industry has now popped up generating profit from it.

Apparently, shady companies are now popping up offering a new service to paying customers: Peddling disinformation online. On everything from vaccines to elections, people are making untold amounts of money from spreading dangerous lies on social media.

But here’s the thing: This is nothing new. At Voto Latino, we’ve been seeing the effects of online disinformation for years, from COVID to attacking Democrats and a progressive majority -- and we’ve already got a plan to fight back. Will you pitch in to help us do it?

At Voto Latino, your contribution will help us monitor and combat disinformation that is aimed directly at the Latino community. If we learned anything from the past few years, it's that we cannot let falsehoods and lies take control of the narrative.

Latino voters were instrumental to Democratic victories in states like Georgia and Arizona in 2020 -- both of which have competitive Senate races in 2022. But if far-right groups successfully target our communities with disinformation, they can roll back the progress we’ve made in these states and take back the House and Senate for Republicans.

If there's anyone fit for the job to correct disinformation and keep registering, informing, and empowering Latino voters, it's Voto Latino. We’ve been talking to the Latino community for over 16 years, and our name is trusted.

But team, we’re counting on grassroots supporters like you to raise the resources we need to keep going. That’s why I’m asking: Will you donate now to help empower our community and secure a Democratic House and Senate in 2022?
