Dear John,

October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

At the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence (CSGV), we know that guns and domestic violence are a lethal combination -- so we're speaking up. We're speaking up for those who no longer have a voice because their abuser had a gun.

Despite the clear risks of firearm access and domestic violence, state and federal laws still make it far too easy for abusers to get their hands on a gun and cause irreversible harm.

Gun violence is an American problem; domestic violence perpetrated with a firearm is an American problem. American women are 21 times more likely to be shot and killed than women in other high-income countries. Data shows that a woman is five times more likely to be murdered when her abuser has a gun, and nearly half of all women killed in the United States are murdered by a current or former intimate partner.

This has to stop.

Our sister organization, the Educational Fund to Stop Gun Violence (Ed Fund), along with other partners, developed Disarm Domestic Violence ([link removed]) -- a tool for survivors, advocates, law enforcement, judges, and researchers to learn about state laws regarding guns and domestic violence. We believe that no one should have to live in fear of an armed abuser, and we are working to help in every way we can.

But we need your support to continue to work towards stronger gun legislation that will save lives and protect victims of domestic violence.

Please make a donation today and stand with us in our fight against domestic violence: [link removed]

Thank you,

Josh Horwitz
