[1]Bowman for Congress

John — just a few
hours ago, the Senate finally passed the bipartisan infrastructure bill.

Fortunately, this bill will provide some funding to fix roads, bridges,
and provide climate resilience and broadband access initiatives. But
unfortunately, this infrastructure bill is far from where we need to be.

The crises we face are immense and urgent. We have an economic crisis, a
climate crisis, and a crisis of racial injustice — the impacts of which
are felt by hundreds of millions of people daily. We need to make
essential investments when it comes to climate, infrastructure, care
workers, and public schools.

The infrastructure package that passed today doesn't even begin to cover
those needs.

I can't lie and say I'm not disappointed by the outcome,
John, because I am. I'm
disappointed in my moderate Democratic colleagues and the White House for
settling for far less than we need at this very moment. We needed closer
to $10 trillion for infrastructure like bridges and roads, as well as a
framework that invests in climate, infrastructure, care workers, and
public schools. Instead, the bipartisan agreement is less than $1
trillion. That is shameful.

This is happening even while the Dixie Fire rages across California. It
happened right after heat waves in the Pacific Northwest were so intense
that people died, and power cables melted. It's happening right as the UN
released their assessments on the climate crisis.

None of it is expendable, all of it is crucial, and the American people
understand these are investments that will pay off tenfold. That's why we
are fighting to make sure our priorities like investing in care and
climate infrastructure are included in Democrats' $3.5 trillion budget
resolution which is moving through the Senate next.

That's why I've been proud to lead the charge in Congress in making it
clear that now isn't the time for compromise with this infrastructure
package — and for continuing to fight for the progressive agenda in
Washington.

We may have not secured the infrastructure package that we needed, but our
work to secure a brighter future for us all continues,
John. [ [link removed] ]Will you please
