Increased access to election data will bring increased fairness

to elections in our country. | A Message from Restoration Action |

Friend,

Public records, by definition, are intended to be available to members of the general public. Election records are supposed to be public records. However, anyone that has ever tried to access election records knows that the information is extremely difficult to obtain at best, and in many instances is not available to individual citizens at all.

Today, that changes.

At Restoration Action, we believe in facts, truth, and transparency. We believe that increased access to election data will bring increased fairness to elections in our country.

Consistent with these beliefs, the Voter Reference Foundation (a non-profit, non-partisan subsidiary of Restoration Action) has just launched a new website, called VoteRef.com. This site will contain complete voter data, state-by-state, on a website available in public view for any American that wishes to review the data.

The first state posted on VoteRef is Nevada. We will continue adding new states on a regular basis, until all state election data is contained there.

The idea is relatively simple: let people see the information contained on their state’s voter rolls so that they can take action to make their election officials aware of mistakes, duplications or inaccuracies.

Many organizations on both sides of the aisle are always talking about the need for greater integrity in our elections. It's easy to talk about the problem, but what is actually being done to solve it? Nobody is doing anything as impactful as this effort, VoteRef, to bring transparency of election data to all Americans. No organization has ever done this before, and we fully anticipate great resistance and numerous legal challenges to these efforts ahead.

There is only one way we can truly ensure the accuracy of the data and the integrity of future elections. We must make election information available for crowdsourcing, by all Americans.

We hope that you will join us in support of VoteRef. The costs of obtaining and publishing the data, as well as the legal costs associated with waging the fight to make this information public, are significant. Any contribution you can make to help defray these costs is greatly appreciated.

If you're in a position to do so, and you find yourself supportive of VoteRef, please click here to make a contribution right away.

We are fighting for you and for the future of our country.

Yours in the fight,
