Hi John,
We’re about two months out from Netroots Nation 2021 and wanted to give you a few updates. Many of you have asked if the in-person part of the convention will occur in the face of rising COVID cases. We are monitoring the situation, while also moving forward with planning for a hybrid event. Read on for event updates, safety procedures and contingency plans.
PROGRAMMING
We’re almost done with our panel and training selection process (whew!) and will announce very soon the sessions that will be presented in October.
Some sessions will be held in person and live-streamed; while others will happen virtually as a webinar. Most sessions—more than 100 hours of content—will be saved in our app for later viewing. Attendees will have access to all afternoon breakout sessions and keynotes, regardless of how they are attending. In-person attendees will also have their choice of in-depth professional development trainings each morning.
Wondering how the hybrid approach will work? Check out our flowchart that shows what the experience will be like for both in-person and virtual attendees.
HOTEL BLOCK
The in-person component will take place at the Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill. If you’re joining us in D.C., remember that evening socializing is a big part of the convention experience. Whether you’re local or coming in from out of town, we have space for you in our discounted hotel block. Click here to reserve your hotel room.
SCHOLARSHIPS
Need a little help attending Netroots Nation? Our virtual tickets are priced low, and we have a special COVID-impacted rate for those who need it. You can also apply for a full or partial scholarship waiver, or volunteer in exchange for a discount.

COVID SAFETY
We are keeping a close eye on the latest COVID-19 developments and working to ensure that #NN21 is safe and accessible to everyone. Our COVID precautions and policies are posted here and will be updated as needed based on guidance from the CDC and local policies in Washington, D.C.
Here are a few important things to note:
-
ALL in-person attendees who are able to be vaccinated must provide proof of vaccination. If unable to be vaccinated, proof of a negative COVID-19 test is required.
-
All in-person attendees over the age of 2 must wear a mask indoors, regardless of vaccination status.
- If we must pivot to a fully virtual event, or if you are no longer able to attend in-person due to a positive COVID test, in-person ticket holders will receive a virtual registration for 2021 and credit toward a full registration for 2022. Alternatively, you can request to have the difference in price refunded in lieu of the 2022 registration credit.
