Today, we remember and celebrate the life of a great American hero.

I would like to pass on my deepest condolences to the family of Representative Elijah E. Cummings.

Congressman Cummings was a shining North Star for many who entered into public service and who dared to fight for a better society and a better world.

Throughout his career, he fought corruption in our government, and in his final months, he fought vigorously to preserve the integrity of our democracy, lower the cost of prescription drugs, and improve life for American families.

Congressman Cummings has left us with a legacy of truth, justice, equality, and equity to aspire to. Let's come together to fulfill his life's work and leave the next generation better off than this one.
