Challenges with affordable housing and homelessness existed in our region well before the COVID-19 pandemic. In fact, the United States underproduced housing by 7.3 million homes in between 2000 and 2015. Sadly, the pandemic has only exacerbated the housing crisis, and Derek is addressing this issue in Congress head-on.

Derek's working to get the resources we need to create more workforce housing, more senior housing, more homeless housing, and more affordable housing, period.

He and his colleagues in the House passed critical affordable housing bills that included funding for local affordable housing projects in Tacoma, Bremerton, and elsewhere. These critical investments in our community will:

Create hundreds of units of affordable housing;
Fund commercial space for predominantly BIPOC-owned businesses;
Invest in the revitalization of our communities;
Generate new, local jobs;
And so much more.
