John,
Macy’s has doubled down on its surveillance—and during its back-to-school sales, kids are being targeted by the company’s facial recognition tech.
We’re calling out Macy’s use of facial recognition on kids, and are reaching out to ask you to help fund an eye-catching, media-ready action.
Can you donate to our crowdfunding campaign to rent a mobile billboard calling out Macy’s for its surveillance of kids?

We’ve been pressuring some of the biggest stores in the U.S. to commit to not using facial recognition on shoppers and workers. 18 stores have told us they won’t use facial recognition. But Macy’s told us that it does use it, and they have no plans to stop.
This is despite the fact that facial recognition surveillance is an assault on our privacy, collecting data that can be shared or sold with other companies or government agencies—or stolen by people who might want to do harm. Everyone should be able to enter a store without having their every move tracked.
And kids should especially not be under constant surveillance by companies that care more about profits than kids’ safety.
That’s why we’re targeting Macy’s—and you can chip in now to be a part of the campaign.
Here’s our plan:
-
We want to rent a mobile billboard that we’ll design with a clear message calling out Macy’s use of surveillance technology.
-
The billboard will target a major Macy’s store on a big back-to-school shopping day, to make sure shoppers know what Macy’s is doing.
-
We’ll work with press, photographers, and volunteers to get a ton of attention and stories to embarrass the heck out of them for using creepy experimental tech on kids.
But this all costs money. The billboard is about $1200, a photographer and videographer is about $3000, and other design and printing materials will be another $500.
We need to raise $4,700 from people like you to do this action. Can you chip in to the crowdfunding effort to help make it possible?
Stores like Macy’s count on back-to-school sales for profits, but the store’s surveillance system is putting millions of kids at risk.
Help ramp up pressure against Macy’s and call it out for watching our kids with facial recognition surveillance.
