Yesterday, the United Nations released a major new scientific report, and it confirms what we've known for a long time: we are not moving fast enough to curb fossil fuel emissions. As a result, the Earth’s climate is getting worse more rapidly than predicted.
Meanwhile, the biggest oil and gas companies take $20 billion per year in U.S. taxpayer money, say they’re fighting the climate crisis, then use some of it to fund shadow groups that undermine whatever they say publicly. It has to end.
That’s why I’m demanding top executives of Exxon Mobil Corporation, Shell, Chevron and other major oil and gas companies testify before Congress about the industry’s decades-long effort to wage disinformation campaigns around climate change.
I refuse to look away or give into despair when facing the reality of our climate crisis. Instead, I choose to fight.
Because here’s the good news: our progressive, people-powered movement is growing more powerful by the day. It’s people like you contributing your time, passion, resources and voice who are pushing our country forward on climate action.
That’s why I’ve refused all lobbyist and PAC donations since being elected to Congress in 2017 — because I’m here to serve the people, not special interests. That’s why I’m able to demand documents and testimony from the world’s most powerful fossil fuel companies, which have resisted Congressional oversight in the past.
The fossil fuel industry continues to manipulate public opinion and exert undue influence in shaping policy in Congress. Beating the climate crisis means holding fossil fuel companies accountable for spreading lies.
