Dear John,
Threats to earned benefits haven’t taken the summer off. In fact, at a time when our country continues to feel the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, millions of older Americans are deeply concerned that their earned benefits could land on the chopping block.
This summer, we need to take a firm stand for Social Security and Medicare — benefits that over a lifetime are worth hundreds of thousands of dollars to you and your family. Specifically, I need you to remind your congressional lawmakers that slashing earned benefits to pay for deficit reduction or other fiscal priorities is NOT a plan voters like you support.
That's why I urge you to sign our SUMMER CHALLENGE Petition to Congress today to protect and strengthen Social Security and Medicare. When your members of Congress return from summer recess, we want to ensure they see that a majority of their constituents have signed onto this petition. The more petitions in their inbox, the more seriously they will take this issue!
Right now, the National Committee's massive nationwide SUMMER CHALLENGE is raising unprecedented awareness about the rights and needs of workers and retirees — and your signed and submitted petition is a key part of our campaign. Please take action now to defend and improve your earned benefits.
During this important campaign, we will be devoting critical resources to passing legislation in Congress to fix the Social Security Cost-of-Living Adjustment, extend Social Security’s solvency by requiring the wealthy to pay their fair share into the program, lower prescription drug costs and expand Medicare to include dental, hearing and vision care. And we will continue to fight ongoing efforts by powerful fiscal hawks in Congress to chip away at your earned benefits!
Please sign our SUMMER CHALLENGE Petition to Congress right now — and officially go on the record with your elected representatives about where you stand on earned benefits. We’re aiming for at least 50,000 signatures to make lawmakers sit up and take notice. This summer, when so much is at stake, we cannot afford to be complacent!
Sincerely,
|
