Friend,
The UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report on the
state of the climate emergency out Monday was declared "a code red for
humanity."
While the terrifying report finds that human activity has already caused
warming beyond anything we've seen in thousands of years, the most
important message of this report is that we still have time to stave off
the most catastrophic effects of global warming — if we act quickly and
boldly.
But that won't happen until we treat the climate emergency as front-page
news every day, not just the when a blockbuster UN study hits. That's
what we do every single day.

If you're a regular reader of Common Dreams, very little in the IPCC
report will come as a shock. But that doesn't make its findings any less
profound.
Understanding and acknowledging the reality of the climate crisis — and
identifying its main culprits — has been one of our driving efforts as
journalists over the last two decades.
But now the urgent work for all of us is to focus every ounce of our
energy on solving this planetary emergency — and that means our work has
only just begun. This is why we must see a Global Green New Deal come to
pass, and why visions for a more sustainable and livable world must give
way to the actual building of that world.
That won't happen without progressive, independent media like Common
Dreams sounding the alarm every single day.
P.S. Please help support Common Dreams and the daily climate-focused
news coverage the planet needs. It's never been more urgent.
