Hey Friend,

Thanks to everyone who joined us last week at BlackStar Film Festival 2021

We were proud to sponsor the 10th annual celebration of the visual and storytelling traditions of the African diaspora and of global communities of color, with virtual screenings, panels, and a daily morning show, plus select in-person screenings and parties in Philadelphia.

Here are some highlights from the festival:

PANEL: “Glitch and the Moving Image” moderated by MediaJustice alum Imran Siddiquee and co-sponsored by MediaJustice, this conversation delved into how digital platforms under racial capitalism extract value from Blackness while devaluing Black people and how Black storytelling is a form of resistance. Watch the video here
Q&A WITH FILMMAKERS: MediaJustice Narrative Director Eteng Ettah moderated a Q&A with filmmakers from #BSFF21 to explore things like the director's creative process, the role films play in changing material conditions, and what compelled them to tell their stories.
INTERVIEW: Eteng also sat down with visual storyteller, photographer, filmmaker, producer, curator, and #BSFF21 panelist Jazmin Jones on The Daily Jawn to talk Seeking Mavis Beacon, glitch feminism, Black fishing, and more. Watch the video here (starts at 28:02).
The festival may be over, but our work isn’t. We’ll never stop fighting for Black people to be the tellers of our own stories. Consider donating to make sure we can continue to do more events like this.

See you next time!
