** Sacred democratic institutions only count if the left gets the results they want...
------------------------------------------------------------
National Review ([link removed]) (8/10/21) column: "The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, a U.N. body, has released its most recent report on global warming. Those of you who follow the climate discourse will already know that these reports are handed down with a great deal of ceremony and that they are received as though they had originated at Delphi, Hira, or Corinth. A familiar part of the ritual is the report’s moral amplification by the press, which is always a couple of more degrees further gone into hysteria and lamentation than the IPCC report itself is...Because progressives are at heart utopians, they have a difficult time acknowledging tradeoffs. On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, climate change is the most important consideration in the world. On Tuesday, Thursdays, and every other Saturday, the top issue
is 'democracy,' vaguely and inconsistently defined...Rather than deal with that honestly, progressives have fallen into a number of obvious alternatives: hysterical moralizing, in which those who do not concur with their agenda must be denounced as moral monsters because there can be no honest disagreement; aggressive indoctrination, in which affirming various aspects of the climate fides as a precondition of participating in educational or business life, including the cynical ploy of indoctrinating children as a means to getting at their parents; 'lying for justice'; and, of course, using the levers of the state to subvert inconvenient democratic realities."

** "President Biden has made the conversion to electric vehicles a pillar of climate policy. But government incentives mostly help affluent buyers, not average families."

Don’t they know that their own policies are responsible for high prices?

(8/6/21) reports: "A coalition of activist organizations is calling for a federal bailout for people who can’t pay their utility bills as well as a suspension of service cutoffs, Energy News Network reported. The Michigan Environmental Justice Coalition says the need for federal protection for the people who can’t afford to pay their electricity bills is particularly dire in Michigan, which is among the states with the fastest-rising electricity rates. Last year, rates in Michigan registered the second-highest rise nationally last year. Under the proposal, the federal government would provide close to $40 billion to wipe out electricity, water, and broadband debt across the United States. It also includes a moratorium on shutoffs of essential services such as electricity and water supply. Of the total sum, $13 billion will be used to wipe out electricity debt. The bill also proposes offering low-interest forgivable debt to utilities that in turn forgive customer debt and stop cutoffs. 'The
impact of an unaffordable power system is that we punish people for being poor over and over again,' said the coalition’s energy democracy organizer, Bridget Vial, as quoted by Energy News Network."

"It's the only way to party for someone like me."

(8/9/21) reports: "For someone who prides himself on optics, Barack Obama just gave us quite an ugly spectacle. As the rest of America struggles with uncertain employment status and school reopenings, shifting mask mandates, anxiety over vaccinations and variants, the health of the economy and the citizenry at large, Obama had to go and throw himself a huge, epic, three-day birthday bash on Martha’s Vineyard. You would think a former president — one who clearly considers himself more intelligent and sensitive than most — would exercise some restraint. Or at least understand that this was a supremely bad look. Here was our climate czar, John Kerry, flying in private. His mode of travel was preferred by a host of left-leaning eco-warrior celebs, all Obama’s 'close friends,' of course, descending on an already understaffed and emotionally depleted Vineyard...The Obamas hosted hundreds of guests, all free to go unmasked, while their 200 servers were reportedly forced to mask up. The tiny
island’s residents, meanwhile, endured 'a s—t-show' of traffic and sudden road closures enforced by the Secret Service. Is there a more disgusting display of elitist 'Rules for thee, not for me' than this?"

Weird how the science doesn't match the mainstream reporting...
