My name is Anaeli, and I work in IJM’s office in Guatemala. I’m a witness of the ongoing violence in my country, and today I’m writing to share about the situation here in Central America.

Right now, thousands of children and families are fleeing their homes. They are leaving out of fear — fear for their lives and the lives of their family members.

As a Guatemalan facing this reality every day, let me tell you two things:

1. Violence is real, and it is terrible. In Guatemala, an average of two women are murdered every day, and every 50 minutes a new complaint of sexual violence is filed. For every victim that files a report, five remain silent.
2. Violence can stop, and justice can be delivered. But for that,

Next week, I’ll be joining IJM advocates in Washington, DC, to talk with your senators and representatives about a bill that will send crucial aid to help end violence against women and children here in Central America. Trust me,
