For decades, I have fought for progressive change in our country. Whether it’s advocating to end forever wars, expand reproductive justice, or stop gun violence, everything I do is to keep our communities safe and give them a chance to thrive.

But, as we’ve made progress as a nation, the Republican Party has only become more determined to drag us backward and hold onto power by any means necessary. Even here in California, national Republicans are working hard to recall Governor Gavin Newsom and install a governor who opposes everything we’ve fought for for so many years.

Leading GOP candidate Larry Elder opposes almost all gun control. He opposes an assault weapons ban, believes that trigger locks are a bad idea, and has even said that not many children die from gun violence each year.

I have known too many families grieving the loss of a loved one to not take action against his extremist agenda. Gun violence is a public health emergency.

John, will you join me in phone-banking to stop the Republican recall? We need all hands on deck to urge Democrats to VOTE NO by September 14.

Growing up in the segregated southwest, I learned at a young age that speaking out and standing up for your beliefs is the only way to get things done in this country. Together we can defeat the Republican recall and advocate for meaningful gun reform nationwide.
