Friends,

I am a survivor of war.

I know firsthand the devastation and trauma it causes. That’s why I’m so dedicated to fighting for a world where no child has to live through war and no nation is destroyed by violence and greed.

So I recently introduced the Stop Arming Human Rights Abusers Act — an important part of my Pathway to Peace plan to put human rights at the center of our foreign policy.

This bill would take the important step of establishing red lines based on gross violations of international human rights and international humanitarian laws.

A bipartisan, independent commission would recommend which countries to list and delist, and countries that violate the red lines would face a prohibition on security aid, arms sales, and exchanges with U.S. law enforcement. The State Department would work with the countries to bring about transitional justice mechanisms for the victims of these human rights abuses.

In short, this bill would ensure that human rights abuses have consequences — no matter who commits them.

Please, will you sign on as a citizen co-sponsor of the Stop Arming Human Rights Abusers Act? It’s crucial that we come together to show our support for a more just, peaceful world.

We should mean it when we say we’re champions for human rights around the world. Thanks for being part of our movement for peace and justice for all.
