We are closer to cancelling student loan debt than ever before.
The Biden Administration and the Department of Education announced on Friday that it will extend the pause on payments for borrowers with federal student loans until January 31st, 2022.
Payments have been paused for the past 17 months, and have saved borrowers a total of $72 billion in interest as of July. This extension is good news. But we can’t stop here. Now is the moment to cancel student loan debt once and for all.
Ayanna and our movement have been leading the call to cancel at least $50,000 in student loan debt, and we continue to put pressure on the Biden Administration to extend much needed relief to millions of Americans saddled with the crushing burden of student loan debt.
And we’re being heard. If the Administration and the Department of Education have the power to pause student loan payments, they have the power to cancel them for good.
