As you may be aware, approximately two weeks ago, LAPD officers responded to a domestic disturbance call at the home of the girlfriend of Jaxson Hayes, a player for the NBA’s New Orleans Pelicans. Unfortunately, Mr. Hayes attempted to obstruct the responding officers’ domestic violence investigation. As is often the case with celebrities and professional athletes, the interaction with our officers garnered significant media attention, including selective mobile phone video released by parties connected to Mr. Hayes.
As allowed by Department policy, the League viewed the body-worn video of the officers involved in the incident. After reviewing the video, it was abundantly clear that Mr. Hayes obstructed the domestic violence investigation, physically assaulted an officer, and went on a verbal N-word laced tirade aimed at the responding officers.
