Breaking News: Right now, the ASPCA is caring for 81 dogs rescued from an alleged underground dogfighting operation. Across multiple locations in New York, the dogs were found in sheds, garages and basements—many displaying conditions consistent with dogfighting like scarring and broken teeth.
The rescue happened last week when the ASPCA assisted the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office with the removal of the dogs. At several locations dogfighting paraphernalia was found including steroids, a skin stapler and electrocution cords. |
The individuals arrested are thought to be experienced dogfighters, trainers and breeders, and these dogs were likely destined for the most heinous and torturous fate. The ASPCA is also supporting authorities with evidence collection, forensic exams, legal assistance, sheltering, medical treatment and behavioral care for the animal victims.
These dogs are now out of harm’s way, settling in at our emergency shelter, and are receiving critical care. You can help us be there for dogfighting victims when they need us most. Please give today to help us continue to save lives. |
