Children need healthy food in order to learn, grow, and thrive. In this moment, we have a chance to make sure that all children—regardless of income, age, or zip code—have access to free school meals. We need your help to ensure Congress takes this important step for our country’s kids. Even before COVID-19, more than 1 in 7 children lived in households without enough to eat, and Black and Hispanic children were twice as likely as white children to experience hunger. In response to the pandemic and rising child hunger, Congress and the USDA temporarily authorized schools to offer free meals to all children. Without additional action, however, schools will soon be forced to revert back to strict eligibility criteria and millions of children will be left behind and hungry.
