[link removed] [[link removed]]Dear John,
If you’ve read, heard, or watched any news today, we’re sure you’ve learned about the latest international climate report. It’s not good news. I felt despair when I saw this upsetting report, which confirms that many climatic changes are unavoidable at this point.
The good news is that we can prevent the most devastating climate impacts by insisting on action at the scale that this crisis demands — and Congress finally has the chance to do just that over the next few weeks.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change — known as the IPCC [[link removed]] — released its first installment of the most up-to-date assessment of climate change projections this morning . It illustrates how climate change is already fueling heat waves, coastal flooding, wildfires, tropical cyclones, and extreme rainfall. What we do over the next few years will largely determine what future we create for our children. Here’s the report [[link removed]] .
UN Secretary-General António Guterres called today’s IPCC report a “code red for humanity” and he’s not wrong.
But hope remains . The obstacles to addressing the climate crisis are largely political, not scientific or economic, and we can still change our climate future. We can transition to an economy that cuts emissions and expands clean energy jobs. We can transform our communities with resilient infrastructure and equitable investments. With the damages from climate change mounting and future threats looming, the only thing we can't do is wait.

Kathleen
