Folks,
It’s that time of the year again! Families across Nevada are eager for the new school year -- but I know that some may be proceeding with caution due to the rise of the COVID-19 Delta variant. As a parent myself, I know how important it is for both students and parents to feel confident heading into the school year.
I want to be clear: I am committed to making sure every student in Nevada has a smooth, safe, and successful school year.
The well-being of our students is my top priority, which is why I released requirements and recommendations for all K-12 students and staff that follow CDC safety guidelines -- including masking, testing, and other strategies to slow the spread of COVID-19. Children under 12 are still not eligible for the vaccine, so it’s
important that we put practices in place that safeguard the health of each and every student.
I’ve also taken steps to ensure that Nevada's public schools receive the attention and funding that they need to thrive this school year.
We know how big of an impact adequate funding has on student achievement, which is why I enacted the Pupil-Centered Funding Plan which updates the public school funding formula and allocates $257 million dollars in 2022 to boost base funding.
I’m not just talking the talk -- I’ve also continued to donate my Governor salary to Nevada public schools because I truly believe that our schools shape our future — and every student in Nevada deserves a chance to be part of that future.
This time of the year is always exciting and full of new possibilities. I’m inspired by the resilience of Nevada’s educators and students and I can’t wait to see what they’re able to accomplish this school year.
Thank you,
Steve Sisolak
P.S. I’m committed to doing whatever it takes to make Nevada’s schools some of the best in the nation. Will you chip in $5 to my reelection campaign and join me in my efforts to ensure a quality education for all students? → https://secure.actblue.com/donate/sisolak_keepnevadablue
