John,

Did you see the latest IPCC report on the climate crisis?

It’s bad. Like, really bad. It says that even if we act now and implement the boldest possible measures to curb this crisis, there will still be devastating, irreversible damage to our planet: Sea levels will continue to rise, ice sheets will melt rapidly, and many coastal cities will cease to exist due to rising sea levels.

This report must serve as a wake up call. Our elected officials need to realize that half measures aren’t enough to stop this emergency — and act accordingly.

If you’re anything like me, you’re probably spiraling about the fate of our planet and desperately looking for a way to stop this crisis before it gets even worse.

Here’s one thing you can do right now: Make sure those in power understand the urgency of this crisis. Click here to get connected with your representatives in Congress and tell them to act now to prevent further devastation to our planet: [[link removed]]

Let’s be clear: The now-inevitable impacts of the climate crisis were once avoidable. These severe, nearly irreversible consequences are the result of inaction from our politicians, many of them bought by oil and gas executives protecting their pocketbooks at the expense of everyone else. It is because of their failure to act that the IPCC warns the places we love and call home will one day cease to exist.

But we still have a chance to stop this crisis. We need a Green New Deal to create millions of good-paying union jobs that’ll help us transition to a renewable energy economy, advance racial and economic justice, and avert further impacts of climate change.

Click here to get started, and we’ll help you send a message to your members of Congress about the urgency of this crisis and what they must do to stop it from getting worse. [[link removed]]

It's easy to feel alone, hopeless, or resigned, John. But now is not the time to give up. We have to keep fighting.

In solidarity,
Paris, Sunrise
