People For Member,
As the Senate nears passage of an infrastructure bill, we need to remind
them that their work is far from done. Efforts to steal the next election
are underway across the country and the tip of the spear of these efforts
is the wave of racist, Jim Crow-esque voter suppression laws being rammed
through Far Right-controlled state legislatures.
Congress CAN protect voters from these attacks and save our democracy. But
right now Senate Republicans, a few Democrats, and the filibuster are
standing in the way.
It's up to us to keep the pressure on! Please help us get to 30,000
signatures right away to send strong message to senators – we're already
74% of the way there!

People For Member,
We’re running out of time to prevent the Far Right’s voter suppression
efforts before the next election. According to the Brennan Center’s latest
data, 18 states have enacted more than 30 new laws that restrict voting
access, aimed squarely at Black and brown voters, in this year alone. And
these right-wing lawmakers are not done yet.
The Senate has the power to act by passing legislation that would mitigate
the worst of these voting rights attacks: the For the People Act (S. 1).
But some Democratic senators are hesitant to remove the filibuster as an
obstacle to passing this vital bill.
[ [link removed] ]Tell Majority Leader Schumer to keep the Senate in session until they
pass S. 1. We must get rid of the filibuster to save our democracy. >>
Every day we’re getting closer to a very real deadline to take action to
pass the For the People Act: If the Senate does not overcome the
filibuster and pass S.1 by August 2021, states will not have enough time
to implement the legislation’s regulations before the 2022 midterm
elections.
The Senate’s August recess can wait – our democracy is more important.
In order to pass the For the People Act, the most transformative bill to
strengthen our democracy in our lifetime, the filibuster must be removed
as an obstacle. It’s become clear that anyone who thinks there will be
bipartisan agreement on this piece of legislation is wrong.
[ [link removed] ]Add your name to urge Majority Leader Schumer to forego the August
recess and keep the Senate in session until they’ve passed the For the
People Act. >>
We need Senate Democrats to lead on this issue and fight back in every way
possible – including by eliminating the Senate filibuster. It simply can’t
wait.
Thank you for taking action to save our democracy,
Ben Jealous, President
