“Today’s report is a code red for humanity. There is no time for delay and no room for excuses.” UN Secretary-General, António Guterres.

Scientists have just given their starkest warning about global heating yet.

But even though some of the impacts are "irreversible" and "inevitable", the scientists behind today’s IPCC report [1] say action now can make a difference to lives across the globe.

So ahead of the UN climate talks in Glasgow, we must make world leaders hear loud and clear that now’s the time for action, not for empty promises.

“Unless there are immediate rapid and large-scale reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, limiting warming to 1.5C will be beyond reach.” Abdalah Mokssit, secretary of the IPCC.

If the world fails to act now, lives and livelihoods will be devastated on a scale far beyond the deadly fires raging across Greece and Turkey.

With the UK government already under pressure to show leadership at the climate summit in Glasgow, Alok Sharma – president of the talks – is trying to show off the country’s green credentials.

But while Boris Johnson still toys with the idea of a new coal mine in Cumbria, an oil field in the North Sea, and backs Mozambique gas exploration with billions of pounds, the government's hard to take seriously.

Today’s report shows just how vital it is that the world acts. Especially wealthy countries like ours that have done the most to create the climate emergency, and have the resources and influence to tackle it.

So please help send a message to world leaders today. Demand greenhouse emissions are cut. And demand nobody should lose their home, livelihood or life because of wealthy nations ignoring the climate crisis.

The IPCC report does contain nuggets of hope. If enough of us speak up we can make sure the scientists’ warnings don’t go unnoticed.
