John -- Let's take a deep dive into two of the GOP's key tactics for skewing election results: voter suppression and gerrymandering.

In the first seven months of 2021, Republicans have enacted 30 voter suppression laws in 18 states. This is unacceptable and we must fight it with everything we have.

Then there's gerrymandering.

Mother Jones: GOP Could Retake the House in 2022 Just by Gerrymandering Four Southern States” with quote “A new study finds that Republicans could gain up to 13 seats in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and Texas.

According to Mother Jones: "[The GOP's] new voting restrictions could certainly swing a close election, but the ultimate partisan effects are unknown, whereas the new redistricting maps enacted by Republicans will have a devastating and surgical impact on Democratic representation."

As A.G. Holder put it, "Gerrymandering is not a question about organizing. You can get people to the polls, they can vote in record numbers, [but] if you allow unfair racial or partisan gerrymandering to occur, that can neuter the turnout."

Where does that leave us? With the understanding that we have to get redistricting right this year because there are no do-overs. And with FINAL redistricting data expected in just four days, we're running out of time to put the pieces in place to achieve fair maps.
