Hey, friend – it's Daniel, Abby's husband. August 8th will always be a special day in Abby’s and my hearts, because a year ago today was when I married my best friend. Standing in our backyard in front of close family, with many friends tuning in from across the country, we exchanged our vows in a ceremony that focused on our love for each other, as well as our love for our community and service to others. 

One year later, I am just as inspired by Abby’s commitment to others as I was on our wedding day. Heck, even our one-year anniversary isn’t stopping us from spending the day supporting the working men and women who have had Abby’s back at every turn.

Abby and I understand that we cannot take a single day for granted, which is why even on our anniversary, we are traveling the state of Iowa to spread Abby’s message of hope to hardworking Iowans. This last year has not been without its challenges. Just two days after our wedding, a catastrophic derecho (inland hurricane) ripped through eastern Iowa with winds exceeding 135 miles per hour, leaving hundreds of thousands of Iowans without power for up to two weeks. It should be no surprise to anyone that Abby got right to work. Even as our own home was without power for 11 days, Abby was on the phone and in the community fighting for desperately needed resources. 

That is who Abby is. As the granddaughter of a firefighter, Abby treated her office with dignity and viewed her role as a public servant, not as a politician. Her commitment to her community and to Iowa is one of the many reasons I fell in love with her. I feel lucky every day to be her husband, and I am certain she has what it takes not only to win a tough race for the U.S. Senate, but also make us proud with her service in office. She’s done it before, and she’ll do it again.
