The recent anniversary of the signing of the 1965 Voting Rights Act is an important reminder of what has been lost as state legislatures across the country careen forward with their efforts to suppress voting rights, particularly in communities of color.
Sadly, voter suppression is also happening outside of the legislative process.
The Supreme Court, in a decision recently handed-down at the end of its term, effectively cut the remaining heart out of the law, as this analysis from Lawyers Defending American Democracy demonstrates.
As you read this piece, we hope you will consider the importance of its concluding words: our federal laws must be strengthened to ensure that the right to vote is fully and finally secured for everyone.
We all must do what we can to help make this a reality.
