John -- The United States Senate has become an increasingly dysfunctional institution. Mitch McConnell used to openly brag that he was the “grim reaper” of legislation. No doubt, too many bills to count died on his desk during his tenure as majority leader -- lifesaving bills like the Violence Against Women Act, to name just one.
That’s why organizers across the country mobilized to flip the Senate. Unfortunately, not much has changed.
So much crucial legislation is stalled in the Senate right now, blocked by an arbitrary Senate parliamentary tradition -- the Jim Crow filibuster.
Despite controlling the White House and both chambers of Congress, Democrats still can’t pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Act, the For the People Act, the absurdly compromised bi-partisan infrastructure bill, or the PRO Act -- all broadly popular pieces of legislation.
How long are we going to let conservative Democrats like Manchin and Sinema or Republicans hold up progress, John?
In its 232 year history, the U.S. Senate has only had 11 Black senators. Currently, there are only two. If we help Charles and Malcolm flip these seats, we will double that number.
That’s not going to be an easy feat. Conservative Democrat Conor Lamb just announced he’s entering the Democratic race in PA. And Charles Booker has a tough fight ahead taking on Rand Paul.
Will you pitch in $50 right now to help us flip these seats and fight for progress in the Senate? If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately: John, you’ve seen firsthand how much trouble two stubborn conservative Democrats can make. Imagine what kind of leverage we would have with two progressive senators like Charles and Malcolm in our corner. Neither Manchin nor Sinema supports getting rid of the Jim Crow filibuster. But if we flip two Republican seats with progressives -- we don’t need their support anymore.
With your support, we can do this. Pitch in $50 today and let’s REALLY flip the Senate in 2022.
