Dear John,
For decades, Fox News has been the biggest source of right-wing disinformation in America.
But an important new study shows that when it comes to disinformation about COVID-19, Facebook is even worse than Fox News.
You heard that right. This study surveyed people who get their news from various news sources, and it found that people who get information from Facebook are even more anti-vaccine than people who get their news from Fox News hosts, such as Tucker Carlson, Sean Hannity, and Laura Ingraham.
It's frightening--and it shows how quickly right-wing conspiracy theories spread online, and on social media in particular.
That’s why we’ve launched an urgent project to build our social media following and counter right-wing disinformation using proven effective, scientifically tested messages and content. And it’s working. But with the spike in the Delta variant and surge in cases, there couldn’t be a more urgent time to invest in combating anti-vaccine disinformation.
Will you donate today and help us get out the truth, including fighting back against right-wing COVID-19 disinformation? [[link removed]]
Day after day, the right wing dominates on social media, with some of the most extreme far-right figures posting the most popular messages on their accounts and pages.
But our effort to combat the right wing is breaking through. We’re repeatedly breaking into the top 10 most popular Facebook link posts--and we’re the only progressive activists who are consistently competing at this scale against Ben Shapiro, Franklin Graham, and Fox News.
We now have more Facebook followers than Breitbart and get nearly three times more engagements and comments per post than this so-called news site. We’re also now dead even with Fox News on Instagram, despite our having a tiny fraction of Fox's staff and budget.
And, crucially, we’ve dramatically expanded our following among young people on TikTok, where vaccine misinformation videos have garnered more than 20 million views.
But if we’re going to combat the right wing’s online anti-vaccine disinformation campaign, we’re going to have to ramp up our efforts, grow our audience, and produce even more content that inoculates the American people against conspiracy theories and dangerous lies.
Will you chip in to power our efforts to build our audience and expand our reach, including to help stop right-wing COVID-19 disinformation online? [[link removed]]
Thanks for standing with us in the fight for truth,
