During August, Congress goes into a month-long recess, so it's been great to be back in the place I call home, Northwest Florida. As you may know, the "Firebrand with Matt Gaetz" podcast has officially dropped; please check it out if you haven't already! Additionally, here's the week in review, along with important congressional issues to bring to your attention:

AROUND THE DISTRICT

REP. GAETZ IS BACK HOME IN NW FLORIDA

I am thrilled to be out of the Swamp and back in Florida’s first district! On Wednesday, I stopped by both Dewey Destin’s and Stripes Pub & Grill, where I had the pleasure of speaking with some fantastic constituents. This reminds me how great it is to be back in town and how proud I am to be a Florida Man!

HONORING BOBBY BOWDEN

Speaking as a proud Florida State alumnus, Bobby Bowden is a true hero and the mastermind behind all magnificent Saturdays in Tallahassee. For football fans everywhere, Bobby is nothing short of a legend - with a winning career as an NCAA head coach from 1976-2009. Coach Bowden has an astonishing legacy of leadership on and off the football field, and for this reason, I am proud to join the Florida delegation in cosponsoring H.R. 4689, which would award Bobby Bowden a well-deserved Congressional Gold Medal.

CRIMINAL ALIEN REMOVAL CLARIFICATION ACT

This bill, introduced by Rep. Paul Gosar, would deport any alien who at any time after admission has been convicted of a felony or two misdemeanors under state or federal law. Currently, an alien is only subject to deportation for a single conviction for certain felonies (such as an aggravated felony), two or more convictions for crimes involving moral turpitude, or being a drug addict. This bill clarifies the law, and makes our country safer.

REP. GAETZ COSPONSORS RESOLUTION CONDEMNING CHINA’S PERSECUTION OF CHRISTIANS

Rep. Vicky Hartzler’s Resolution stands up for the Christians being persecuted in China. Year in and year out, Christians are the most persecuted religious group in the world, and much of this persecution comes from the godless Chinese Communist Party. The Chinese Communist Party requires government approval for religious schools, websites, and any form of practice of the Christian faith. Religious freedom is a human right!

REP. GAETZ SEEKS TO ELIMINATE WOKE JOBS IN DOD

I am proud to cosponsor the Restoring Military Focus Act, which would push back against the Woketopian agenda of progressives, as they try to implement it at the Department of Defense (DoD). Specifically, H.R. 4668 would eliminate the Chief Diversity Officer and Senior Advisor of Diversity and Inclusion at DoD. This bill would also prohibit the use of federal funds to establish both of these aforementioned ‘woke’ positions, so that they may not be created in the future. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, critical race theory and woke progressivism have no place in our military!
