Climate change is a real and present threat. You know it, and I know it. Communities across America are already facing extreme weather events, severe flooding and horrible drought.
The Trump Administration, however, hasn’t just opposed new action – they’ve taken us backwards by withdrawing from the Paris Climate Agreement, rolling back emissions standards, easing restrictions on methane emissions, and a whole lot more.
We must take bold action now to combat the climate crisis. To do that, we need big ideas coupled with actionable solutions. And NewDems are leading the way.
The New Democrat Coalition just released a groundbreaking new agenda to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
The plan puts American workers and communities first, investing in cutting-edge technologies and American entrepreneurship, and promoting market-oriented solutions that get the job done.
When NewDems say we need bold, actionable solutions, we mean that we must:
* Reduce emissions by harnessing new technologies, like direct-air carbon capture (that's removing carbon dioxide directly from the air!).
* Create jobs by investing in solar, wind, nuclear energy, and electric vehicles (to name a few).
* Support local communities by improving disaster preparedness and infrastructure to protect our shorelines against rising sea levels.
* Take action on the Department of Defense's climate change assessment and acknowledge that climate change is a threat to national security.
