Millions of dollars will go towards violence intervention programs in our city.

Moms Demand Action

John, this is a huge win for gun safety:

The DC Council just approved the 2021-2022 fiscal year budget—and it includes millions of dollars worth of funding for crucial violence intervention programs.

Supporters like you helped us drive hundreds of messages to our city council members to advocate for gun safety, and we won.

With the new funding, the District is investing in a comprehensive plan to combat gun violence, which includes:

  • Hiring additional violence interrupters
  • Supporting the Cure the Streets program, which employs street outreach workers who actively mediate conflict and prevent retaliatory violence
  • Expanding trauma-informed mental health services
  • Funding alternative dispatch programs

This work doesn't happen overnight—these victories were years in the making. And much of that is thanks to the tireless efforts of our volunteers on the ground who talk directly with lawmakers and their communities about gun safety solutions.

We couldn't do this work without the incredible help of our volunteers. Sign up today to join us and volunteer with the DC chapter of Moms Demand Action!

Thank you for being a part of this movement,
