John,
Today marks the anniversary of the Voting Rights Act , signed into law by President Lyndon B. Johnson on this day in 1965. The Voting Rights Act protects the most critical part of our democracy — the right of all Americans to make their voices heard.
Today, I’m celebrating the Voting Rights Act for all that it has accomplished, but I’m also mindful of the ongoing attacks on our voting rights that are taking place across the country. Right now, Texas Republicans are trying to fast-track anti-democratic bills to make it harder for brown and Black Texans to vote, forcing Texas Democrats to leave the state to stop these harmful measures.
Fifty-six years after the passage of the Voting Rights Act , Republicans are doing everything they can to suppress the vote and steal elections. Add your name to demand that Congress pass the For the People Act to protect and expand on the legacy of the Voting Rights Act >>> [[link removed]]

My Democratic colleagues and I are working hard to pass the For the People Act. This bill, if signed into law, would expand upon the protections of the 1965 Voting Rights Act and prevent measures designed to undermine your right to vote — like the restrictions Texas Republicans are trying to impose as we speak.

Thanks for staying vigilant, — Rep. Eric Swalwell
