Pledge to vote NO on the gubernatorial recall this September.
Friend –
Despite this terrible pandemic, California has shown what is possible when we work together to advance civil rights and liberties for all.
In recent years, we have made strides in reforming our legal system. We've locked arms to ensure that Californians can move freely in our communities regardless of their immigration status. And we've fought so that our students can receive accurate, LGTBQ-inclusive sex education in public schools. And as you know, there's so much more to do.
This is why the boards of the ACLU affiliates in California have voted to oppose the upcoming gubernatorial recall. This September, be an ACLU voter if you can and pledge to vote NO on the recall. <[link removed]>
This recall is a blatant attack on California values and on policies that the vast majority of Californians support. You have to look no further than the recall petition to know that the forces behind this ill-conceived effort would turn back the clock on hard-won advances for our communities.
But let's be clear, in its 98 years in the state, the ACLU has never endorsed or opposed a candidate during an election and is not doing so now. We oppose this recall effort because we believe in immigrants' rights, gender equity, racial justice, LGBTQ rights and students' rights.
If you're eligible to vote, join us in voting NO on the gubernatorial recall on or before Tuesday, September 14. <[link removed]>
With so much at stake, we will not be silent.
