John —

Thanks to this community’s support throughout the past year, our policy team, along with affiliated innocence organizations and other partners across the country, has been able to push forward 21 groundbreaking statewide reforms throughout the country that will help change our criminal legal system.

Hugely consequential things like passing bills that prohibit police deception during juvenile interrogations in Illinois and Oregon, establishing or improving compensation laws for the wrongly convicted in four states, including Maryland and Idaho, ending immunity for law enforcement officials who knowingly break the law in New Mexico, and so much more — none of this would be possible without the help of people like you.

But while we’re celebrating these victories, we know there’s still so much more work to do to make our system more reliable, just and equitable. So we’ve recently been planning out the next campaigns we want to mount, and part of that means going through our records. Before we start crunching all the numbers, we want to make sure that we have the correct information on file. Here’s what we currently have for you:

Started in 1992 as a legal clinic at Cardozo School of Law, the Innocence Project is now an independent nonprofit, affiliated with Cardozo, that exonerates the wrongly convicted through DNA testing and reforms the criminal justice system to prevent future injustice.
